About the Board:

Our Advisory Board was established in February 2022 and was created to provide strategic advice, guidance, and oversight to the Centre for the New Midlands.  As the Centre enters its sixth year of business, we are are looking to recruit several new members to our Advisory Board to help support the ongoing growth and development of the region’s only independent think tank.

Our Advisory Board is chaired by Dr Sarah Perry and is comprised of approximately 12 distinguished individuals from business, government, education, innovation, culture,  community development and includes the Chairs of our Leadership Boards.

The Board’s Purpose:

  • Strategic Advice: Offering strategic insights and expertise to help guide the Centre’s programs, initiatives, and operations.
  • Industry Connections: Leveraging the Board’s networks to foster collaborations, partnerships, and investment opportunities for the Centre.
  • Knowledge Sharing: Providing thought leadership, market intelligence, and industry trends to enhance the Centre’s proposition.
  • Governance Support: Assisting with the development and oversight of governance frameworks and ensuring the Centre operates efficiently and effectively.
  • Advocacy: Promoting the Centre and its goals within the region and nationally, advocating for the Centre’s initiatives and values.

Who we are looking for:

 

We are particularly interested in recruiting new members who can demonstrate significant experience within:

  • Recent Senior leadership experience within an SME
  • Public Affairs/PR/Marketing
  • Research environment
  • Think tank or a policy organisation
  • Senior leadership within local or regional government
  • Experience of working within Whitehall – either as an elected representative or via the civil service
  • OR are under the age of 30 and have a significant interest in regional policy making & gaining board-level experience

What sort of commitment is needed from me?

  • Attend Board meetings regularly and actively participate in discussions and decision-making processes (meetings held quarterly, 2 in person and 2 online)
  • Offer guidance and expertise on strategic issues, helping to shape the Centre’s programmes and policies
  • Leverage their networks to promote the Centre’s initiatives and secure partnerships or funding
  • Provide feedback on the Centre’s performance and suggest areas for improvement
  • Act as ambassadors for the Centre in external relations, building the Centre’s profile and reputation
  • Whilst not compulsory, we expect that members will seek to bring their employers into the Centre’s Reimagining the Region network
  • Successful applicants would be expected to commit to a two year role, with a mutual review taking place after the first year

These roles are voluntary positions with the Centre and successful applicants would be appointed for an initial two year period, with a mutual review process at the end of the first year.
